MEDICAL CODING
Medical Coding is the conversion of a patient's healthcare process, procedures, treatment received , equipment used and more into alphanumeric codes. These codes must be accurate as they make up the whole payment procedures. The codes generated are later billed to insurance companies to claim insurance.
Medical Coders uses a set of previously assigned codes for coding purposes, they are generally ICD, CPT and HCPCS. ICD codes or International Classification of Diseases are set of codes managed and published by World Health Organisation (WHO). These codes are diagnostic codes, which contains a patient's diagnosis, signs and symptoms or any other abnormal findings. For instance ICD code, R05.4 denotes cough syncope.
