                      Medical Coding is the process of assigning standard codes to medical diagnoses and procedures related to the treatment of patients in order to facilitate the collection and analysis of healthcare data.

There are three types of codes mainly :  

  • International Classification of Diseases (ICD) : This internationally recognised code was developed by the World Health Organization (WHO). The classification system is primarily used for data collecting and health records, among other things. These codes can categorise signs, conditions, illnesses, and fatalities.
  • Current Procedural Terminology(CPT): Medical, surgical, and diagnostic operations and services are identified in the US using CPT codes.
  • Healthcare Common Procedure Coding (HCPCS): Coders use them to note medical procedures, products, supplies and services.
