                   Medical Coding is the process of assigning standard codes to medical diagnoses and procedures related to the treatment of patients in order to facilitate the collection and analysis of healthcare data.

                   Medical Coders uses a set of previously assigned codes for coding purpose, which includes, ICD, CPT and HCPCS. CPT are Procedural codes and HCPCS are codes denoting equipment used in a healthcare process. ICD codes are diagnostic codes. For instance ICD code M08.1 denotes juvenile ankylosing spondylitis. 

                       Juvenile ankylosing spondylitis (JAS) is an inflammatory type of arthritis that affects the spine and large joints. Symptoms of JAS include pain, stiffness, and inflammation in the back, neck, hips, and knees. It can also cause fatigue, loss of appetite, and general feeling of being unwell. Diagnosis typically involves blood tests, imaging tests, and sometimes an examination of joint fluid. Treatment may include medications such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs, and biologics. Physical therapy and exercise can also help manage symptoms.
