Medical coders use the alphanumeric codes from various coding systems, including the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) and the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes, to assign codes to diagnoses and procedures. 


                    ICD Codes are internationally accepted diagnostic code. These codes contains a patient's diagnosis, signs and symptoms or any other abnormal behavior. For instance ICD code, I63.9 denotes Cerebral Infraction.

                     Cerebral infarction (also known as stroke) is the medical term for a type of brain injury due to the interruption of blood supply to the brain. It is caused by either the blockage of a blood vessel (ischemic stroke) or the rupture of a blood vessel (hemorrhagic stroke). The resulting lack of oxygen and nutrients to the brain can cause serious damage to the affected area, leading to physical and mental disability.
