                Medical Coding is the process of assigning standard codes to medical diagnoses and procedures related to the treatment of patients in order to facilitate the collection and analysis of healthcare data.

                 Medical Coders use a set of previously assigned codes for coding purposes, which includes ICD, CPT and HCPCS. CPT are set of codes which denotes the procedures done during a healthcare process and HCPCS are set of codes used for equipment used. ICD codes are set of codes which denotes diagnosis of a patient.

                 ICD codes or International Classification of Diseases are set of codes assigned and managed by World Health Organisation (WHO). These codes contains diagnosis, sign and symptoms of a patient. For instance ICD code R12 denotes heartburn.
