                       Medical Coding is the process of assigning standard codes to medical diagnoses and procedures related to the treatment of patients in order to facilitate the collection and analysis of healthcare data.

                      Medical coders use the alphanumeric codes from various coding systems, including the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) and the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes, to assign codes to diagnoses and procedures.

                      ICD codes or International Classification of Diseases are set of codes published and managed by World Health Organisation (WHO). These codes are diagnostic codes which contains diagnosis, signs and symptoms or any other abnormal findings on a patient. For instance ICD code, J33.0 denotes Polyp of Nasal Cavity. 

                         A nasal polyp is a soft, noncancerous growth that forms on the lining of the nasal passages or sinuses. They are usually caused by chronic inflammation due to allergies or other conditions such as asthma, cystic fibrosis, or infection. When present, they may complicate breathing, sense of smell, and cause a runny nose. Treatment usually involves medications, surgery, or both.
