Importance of Medical Coding.

 MEDICAL CODING.

Medical Coding is the conversion of healthcare processes like diagnosis, signs and symptoms, treatment received, prescriptions, equipment used, and any other abnormal findings in a  patient by a doctor or any other healthcare professional into universally accepted alphanumeric codes. Later these codes are billed to insurance companies to claim insurance for their payment purposes. This is known as medical billing.

Medical coding is important part of the healthcare industry and is used to accurately capture and manage medical diagnoses and treatment and procedures. It is the process of assigning numerical codes to medical diagnosis and procedures. This process is necessary for accurate reimbursement and is important for tracking healthcare data. Medical coding is used in a variety of settings, including physician offices, hospitals, clinics, nursing homes and other healthcare settings. It allows for the accurate tracking of healthcare data and helps to ensure that all billing and reimbursement is done correctly.

For the coding purpose, medical coders use a specific set of codes called diagnostic purposes. Diagnostic codes is the translation of written description of diseases, illness and injuries into codes from a particular classification. The International Classification of Diseases or ICD codes are a set of codes used by physicians and other healthcare providers to classify and code all diagnoses, symptoms and procedures.
